About Fitzroy Etching Presses
Established in 2011 Fitzroy Etching Presses is an independent business managed by artists Stephen Twohig and Jane Ansted in the heart of Fitzroy, Australia’s printmaking capital. Specializing in making custom Etching Presses, Brayers and Rollers and other printmaking equipment we also provide Repair, Service and Maintenance to existing presses in private studios, schools and other institutions.
About Steve:
I’d been building presses for Neil Wallace for some time and as he retired and the shop changed hands it made sense to go it alone. I am an electrical fitter and I was schooled in fitting and turning formerly at a technical college and by my father who was a Fitter and Turner. The business is my passion. I have a degree in printmaking from Victorian College of the Arts, (Melbourne University) and a Diploma of Visual Arts (Painting and Printmaking) from R.M.I.T. My studio is on the same premises as the workshop.
About Jane:
Jane Ansted holds a degree from R.M.I.T in Drawing and her practice encompasses printmaking. She has worked on large art projects for Moomba and Big Fish.
Creative Engineering:
We have been manufacturing one off solutions for factories, homes and shops locally and nationally. We can develop ideas into working drawings/models and advise on materials etc. Stephen has been building controls and switchboards most of his life and has an extensive knowledge in electrical safety and circuits and controls. In the workshop there is high quality manufacturing equipment for turning, milling, cutting and Mig and Arc welding. We have several overhead cranes and foundry, plating and bending services.
